Every October, Concordia welcomes 5,000 prospective students and their families to the fall Open House. This year’s event, like every other dimension of Concordia’s operations, will be different: it’s happening virtually.

The virtual Open House is taking place on two different days: Saturday, October 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. EDT for prospective undergraduates and Saturday, November 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST for prospective graduate students. Registration is free and can be done through the Open House webpage.

2 ways to engage: presentations and booths

During the two events, visitors will find all the information available at a traditional in-person Open House, ranging from how to apply to specific programs and details about what to expect from student life, to resources for funding your education, support for international students and much more.

How will it work? Much like at an in-person event, visitors will be able to catch scheduled presentations from faculty recruiters and chat in real-time with Concordia professors and students at virtual information booths. You will not need a webcam to attend, since participants will be able to connect with others using a chat function.

Open to everyone, wherever you are

Traditional campus tours are sidelined for the time being. But the switch to online does provide a new opportunity for prospective students all over the world who would not otherwise be able to take part in a full Open House experience.

"While our virtual Open House will be different than the event we can offer in-person, I am excited about the opportunity to showcase Concordia to those who ordinarily could not travel to Montreal to visit campus for a weekend,” says Matthew Stiegemeyer, Concordia’s director of student recruitment.

“Whether they’re in Vancouver or Vienna, we are preparing to help prospective students and their families experience the breadth of programs and services we offer.”

Thinking ahead to being on campus

Even though Concordia will be holding classes online through the winter 2021 term, prospective students likely have questions about living on campus once it’s safe to do so, and Open House is a great place to get answers. Live-chat booths will be covering questions about residences, off-campus housing, not to mention finding a job on campus, joining clubs and playing sports. International students can find out about how to assemble their required documentation to join our community in Montreal.

A day just for graduate students

In the coming weeks, graduate students will be able to register for their designated event on Saturday, November 7. Beyond learning about what Concordia’s graduate programs have to offer, the graduate studies Open House will be the place to find information on applying for research funding, opportunities to work as a teaching assistant and research assistant and much more.

“We look forward to welcoming prospective graduate students from all over the world to our November Open House, says Effrosyni Diamantoudi, interim dean of graduate studies.

“Choosing Concordia means joining a group of committed, engaged scholars working at the forefront of research. We invite you to bring all of your questions to this accessible virtual event.”
