A statement from Concordia President Alan Shepard
Earlier today at the university we learned of a social media posting by one of our students that included an incitement to violence tied to last night’s election leaders’ debate.
On behalf of the university, I wish to make clear that there is no place for violence or calls for violence in our society and I personally regret that such a statement was made by one of our students.
The posting was unacceptable and contrary to our values.
This situation highlights the power of social media and the huge impact and potential consequences of social media postings. We must all be mindful that words have consequences.
The university is addressing the matter internally.
