The Loyola Sustainability Research Centre (LSRC) introduced itself to the global academic community this week with the launch of its first official newsletter.

Opening with a welcome from LSRC Director Peter Stoett, the newsletter celebrates the recent publications and achievements of its fellows.

"The main purpose of the newsletter was to announce to the world that we exist," said Stoett in an interview. In addition to getting word out to the Concordia community, Stoett describes the biannual digital newsletter as key to accessing a broader, global audience of NGOs, lobby groups and scientific associations.

"We're trying to reach researchers, everyone from biologists to political scientists to historians to people who teach languages," said Stoett, a professor in Concordia's Department of Political Science.

Created in October 2012, the centre is an interdisciplinary research centre boasting 26 fellows from 13 departments. Currently, research focuses on climate change adaptation and prevention, and protecting the Earth’s dwindling number of flora and fauna species through biodiversity conservation.

The LSRC also works directly with students through Concordia's Minor in Sustainability Studies and hopes to one day offer a master’s degree in Environmental Studies.

Visitors can find the centre in Room AD-502 of the Administration Builiding on Loyola Campus or can visit their website.
