Concordia’s Centre for Academic Leadership promotes best practices in academic leadership and provides support and training to current and future academic leaders.

“Our mission is to promote ethical academic leadership through the provision of support, training and applied research knowledge in relevant fields of expertise, including responsible management, fiscal responsibility and faculty career development,” explains the centre’s Executive Director Dominic Peltier-Rivest. “These support services are geared to current and potential university leaders, such as program directors, department chairs, associate deans, associate university librarians and supervisory librarians.”

Peltier-Rivest points to the new Concordia Academic Leadership Awards as one of the centre’s initiatives that “recognizes exceptional academic leadership and exceptional administrative accomplishments at Concordia.”

The first recipients of these new awards will be announced on June 5 by Concordia President Frederick Lowy and Provost and Vice-President, Academic Affairs, David Graham at the Concordia University Celebration of Excellence. The event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Loyola Jesuit Hall Conference Centre.

The centre is also developing a new peer mentoring program for newly appointed department chairs and college principals. He explains that “the literature has shown that peer mentoring programs help new leaders increase their effectiveness and satisfaction in their new administrative positions.”
