Oh, Canada art exhibit shouts "Oh Concordia"
Concordians occupy an important place in contemporary Canadian art. Nearly a quarter of artists and curators featured in a new exhibition at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASS MoCA) hail from the university and its Faculty of Fine Arts.
The largest survey of contemporary Canadian art ever produced outside Canada, MASS MoCA’s Oh, Canada will showcase works by more than 60 artists from every province and nearly every territory.
"I congratulate the Concordia artists and curators on their achievements and MASS MoCA's recognition of their contributions to visual art," says Catherine Wild, dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts. "We are proud of the role of the Faculty as a longstanding hub for academic excellence and cultural debate."
Featured Department of Studio Arts faculty members are Associate Professor Gisele Amantea; Daniel Barrow, visiting assistant professor; Luanne Martineau, associate professor; and Janet Werner, associate professor.
Concordia alumni artists are Nicolas Baier, attendee 94; Dean Baldwin, attendee 99-01; Étienne Zack, attendee 97; Michel De Broin, attendee; Mary-Anne McTrowe (of the Cedar Tavern Singers AKA Les Phonoréalistes), MFA 01; Eryn Foster, BFA 97; Myfanwy MacLeod, BFA 90; Clint Neufeld, MFA 06; and Charles Stankievech, MFA 07. Contributing curators are David Liss, BFA 87, and Lance Blomgren, MA 00.
To celebrate the achievement of Concordians at MASS MoCA, the Faculty of Fine Arts, FOFA Gallery and Advancement and Alumni Relations will host a weekend cultural field trip to visit the show, from June 15 to 17. The outing will include return bus transportation, accommodations, museum entrance and guided tours. Find out more at an information session Wednesday, March 21. MASS MoCA ranks among the most visited American institutions dedicated to new art. Housed on restored 19th-century factory grounds, it comprises 25 buildings on 13 acres in North Adams, Mass.
