Concordia's Graeme McGravie (at left) has been named the Quebec university women’s rugby conference Coach of the Year when the provincial honor roll was announced October 26.

McGravie, now in his sixth year at the helm of the Concordia women’s team, led the Stingers to a perfect 6-0 win-loss record in conference play. His team outscored its opponents 243-53.

Overall Concordia has a 10-0 record, including three preseason wins and a 33-5 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the conference semifinal last Sunday.

The Stingers have been ranked No. 4 in CIS Top 10 all season.

They defeated two ranked teams (three games out of 10) this season. Concordia defeated Laval in two regular season games. The Rouge et Or were ranked No. 6 throughout the fall. The Stingers also defeated Western in preseason action. The Mustangs were ranked as high as No. 7 early in the season.

McGravie has enjoyed great success at the university level, being named both Quebec and CIS Women’s Rugby Coach of the Year in 2007. He has brought the Stingers to the women’s playoffs for six consecutive seasons. Concordia played in the Quebec conference championship in each of the last four seasons, winning in 2007 and 2009.

The Stingers will host the Laval Rouge et Or in the Quebec championship on Friday at 7 p.m.

McGravie is an employee of Concordia University, working as an admissions counsellor in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
