Concordia President and Vice-Chancellor Judith Woodsworth announced that Kathy Assayag has stepped down from her positions at the University for personal reasons. Since January 2005, Kathy Assayag has held the dual roles of Vice-President, Advancement and Alumni Relations, and President of the Concordia University Foundation.

“Over the last five and a half years, Concordia’s advancement and alumni operations have matured and the generosity of our friends and supporters has grown,” said President Woodsworth. “Under Kathy’s guidance, our outreach to local, national and international alumni has resulted in greater recognition of Concordia. Several new initiatives were implemented during her tenure including the launch of the Adopt-a-Student program, student outreach programs, commemorative alumni certificates, endowment reporting, and high visibility events such as Hitting the High Notes.”

“Kathy and her team expanded our global reach by opening several geographic alumni chapters around the world,” continued President Woodsworth. “Her fundraising on Concordia’s behalf has been an important part of the revitalization of our University. Under her leadership, the sector won six awards which brought pride to the University and enhanced our reputation nationally and internationally. Kathy served the Foundation and Concordia with passion and devotion.”

Dominique McCaughey, Principal Director, Special Initiatives, Advancement and Alumni Relations, will serve as Acting Vice-President until a permanent replacement is found.  The Concordia University Foundation will name a president at its next meeting.

President Woodsworth added, “While Kathy Assayag’s departure is a setback, we have an excellent team in place and we’ll build on it to maintain continued success in our fundraising efforts. We remain committed to moving forward and stewarding the University’s relationships with its alumni and supporters.”

Kathy Assayag said, “It has been a pleasure to work for Concordia University and its loyal family of alumni and supporters. During my time here, I have been impressed with the professionalism of all my colleagues and the dedication of our volunteers. I will continue to cheer for Concordia as it takes its rightful place as a top Canadian university."

The Concordia community wishes Kathy Assayag well in her continued success and future endeavours.
