Graham Carr appointed Dean of Graduate Studies

 Concordia’s Board of Governors today approved the appointment of Graham Carr as Dean of Graduate Studies for a five-year term beginning on May 1, 2010.

Graham Carr is currently the Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies, in the Faculty of Arts and Science, a position he has held since 2006. He received a PhD in History from the University of Maine and holds an MA from Queen’s University, where he also received his BA (Hons) History.

Graham Carr brings a number of key strengths to the position of Dean of Graduate Studies including strong scholarly credentials, exemplary academic and administrative leadership, a commitment to develop excellence and to foster innovation in graduate education and a familiarity with Concordia University and its students, faculty and staff.

“Dr. Carr’s vision for the role of Dean of Graduate Studies clearly demonstrates a keen and wide-ranging understanding of the current challenges faced by Concordia with respect to graduate studies.” said Vice-President Research and Graduate Studies Louise Dandurand. “He has a genuine appreciation of the unique needs and priorities with respect to the different Faculties and departments and excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an open, consensus-building, collaborative and collegial leadership style. This is an excellent choice for Concordia.”

Graham Carr has published in the areas of Canadian and US history, culture and identity and has been active in organizing national and international conferences related to the study of history and particularly Canadian Studies. He has served on numerous advisory, search, hiring and administrative committees at both the Faculty and university level and is a member of, among others, the Senate Research Committee, the Steering and Academic Committees for Congress 2010 and the President’s Conference Series Organizing Committee.

Vice-President Research and Graduate Studies Louise Dandurand is pleased to announce the appointment of Graham Carr to this critically important position in ensuring the continued development of graduate studies at Concordia.
