Earth Day 2018
With Earth Day taking place this Sunday, April 22, several Concordia University professors are available for media interviews touching on environmental topics. This year’s Earth Day theme is “End Plastic Pollution.”
Climate change and the effects of human activity on ecosystems
Damon Matthews is a professor and Concordia Research Chair in Climate Science and Sustainability, Geography, Planning and Environment. He is a world-renowned expert on climate change, carbon emissions and climate targets and a member of the Royal Society of Canada. He is Concordia’s scientific liaison to Future Earth and was a contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
He is also an authority on simple actions that can reduce an individual’s carbon footprint, as can be seen in this video:

Kelly Jazvac is an associate professor of Studio Arts in the Faculty of Fine Arts. She specializes in art made from salvaged material and ocean plastics. She is available Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon.

The effect of water contamination on human health
An associate professor at the Centre for Engineering in Society, Ketra Schmitt is an expert on the intersection of public policy and technology, with a particular interest in how it impacts public health. In 2016, she published an op-ed in the Montreal Gazette on the risks associated with lead in water pipes. She is available all day Thursday, Friday and most of the weekend.

Urbanization, urban sprawl and environmental disruption to ecosystems
Jochen Jaeger, associate professor in Geography, Planning and Environment, can discuss landscape and urbanization, urban sprawl, the impacts of growth on environmentally sensitive systems and related subjects. He is generally available to speak to media.

Business and the environment
Raymond Paquin is the principal of the Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability and an associate professor of management. He can speak about how firms create collaborative environmental, social and economic value that reaches beyond what individual firms can achieve. He is available Wednesday and Thursday after 4 pm and any time on Friday afternoon.
