Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:
- Hilary Rose, associate professor in the Department of Applied Human Sciences, writes an opinion piece in theMontreal Gazette to mark Orange Shirt Day, honoring the survivors of Canada's residential schools, the last of which closed in 1996. Rose calls on all Canadians to work toward redressing the legacy of the residential school system.
- The Montreal Gazette also runs an opinion piece by Bruce Hicks, lecturer in the Department of Political Science. Hicks warns that the introduction of regional caucuses in the Senate to replace the current party caucus system would be problematic for anglophones in Quebec.
- Kyle Matthews, senior deputy director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) at Concordia, is interviewed on Radio Canada International about Canada's first professional training program on countering violent extremism, November 16 and 17, hosted by MIGS.
- Adel Hanna, professor in the Department of Building, Civil and Environmental Engineering, was on Breakfast Television Montreal this morning to talk about the 10th anniversary of the collapse of the Laval overpass on highway 19 at De La Concorde, in which five people were killed (no link available).
- Harold Simpkins, senior lecturer in marketing at the John Molson School of Business, is quoted in a piece inCanadian Grocer about the branding transition, in Quebec, of the Loblaws grocery store chain to Provigo le Marché.
- Damon Matthews, associate professor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment, is quoted in an earlier opinion piece, reprised in Science World Report and Khaleej Times, about CO2 levels and whether we have reached a point of no return.
- The Coast (Halifax) lists 'Oral Traditions of West Africa', with jazz artist Jeri Brown, associate professor in the Department of Music, among its top ten Halifax events this weekend. The one-day jazz workshop takes place tomorrow, at the Dalhousie Arts Centre.
- Droit-Inc quotes Chantal Maillé, professor in the Simone de Beauvoir Institute, in an article about under-representation of women in political parties in Quebec. The piece links to an earlier article on the subject of women in politics in Le Soleil (May 8, 2016), also quoting Maillé.
