- Mebs Kanji, associate professor in the Department of Political Science, and Kerry Tannahill, a PhD student in the department, are the authors of an op-ed in the Winnipeg Free Press about Quebecers' views on rights and religion. The piece focuses on Quebecers' overwhelming support for the rights of individuals to wear and display religious symbols and warns that playing politics over the issue in a federal election will alienate voters in Quebec.
- Jean-Philippe Warren, associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, is quoted in an article inthestar.com about the reaction of Muslims in Quebec to the City of Montreal's proposal to create a centre to combat radicalization. Warren points out the debate over religious extremism takes on distinctive features in Quebec due to "nationalistic concerns" and a number of social issues including the high unemployment rate among Muslims here and the history of immigration from French-speaking Muslim countries. - Communications Studies professor and Canada Research Chair In Game Studies & Design Mia Consalvo is quoted in a piece in New World Notes about the Gamergate controversy, centered on sexism in video game culture and involving misogynistic attacks on certain female game developers.
