Dr. Kanwal Syed
Dr. Kanwal Syed (PhD, 2022) is one of the twelve selected participants of the 2024 CAA-Getty International Program. The program's goal is to increase international participation in the College Art Association of America's (CAA) activities and the field of visual arts in academia, thereby expanding international networks and the exchange of ideas both during and after the conference.
At a preconference colloquium with the other participants, Dr. Syed will discuss key issues in the international study of art history together with CAA-Getty alumni and US hosts. The program will delve into topics such as postcolonial and Eurocentric legacies, decolonization of museums, scholarship and pedagogy, interdisciplinary and transnational methodologies, and the intersection of politics and art history.
Currently an Assistant Professor of Art History in the School of Arts & Sciences at the American Univesity in Dubai, Dr. Syed will be travelling to Chicago to attend the annual CAA conference from February 14–17, 2024.
