Professor Kristina Huneault Presents Lecture at Yale University

"Botanical Albums as Theoretical Objects" - lecture by Dr. Kristina Huneault

Kristina Huneault is lecturing at Yale University on November 20th, as an invited guest of the 18th and 19th century studies group.

Women's botanical albums are easily overlooked as polite arts of feminine accomplishment. In her lecture at Yale, Dr. Huneault argues that this is to miss their theoretical power as technologies of the self. By attending to the very distinctive pictorial organization of women's botanical drawings, it is possible to enrich other more socially grounded readings of women's botanical drawing as a performance of female identity.
