Since its implementation in 2018, the Elspeth McConnell award has enabled 53 students in the Faculty of Fine Arts to make real differences in Montreal's cultural industry, and to learn how to better integrate into their desired professional environments.

In order to participate, students are asked to contact an NGO of their choice that is located in the Greater Montreal region, or to take advantage of one of the internship opportunities available on the Concordia website.

The internships carried out within the framework of the Elspeth McConnell Award can even allow students to find a job after their studies. This was the case for Anne-Julie Lalande (BFA, Film Studies, 2018), who has been working at Cinéma Moderne since she landed an internship there two years earlier.

“Receiving the Elspeth McConnell Award provided me security and energy. To know that all my efforts were going to be rewarded was a great motivation,” she said.

“We discovered a great talent while hosting the intern that is now 2 years and a half later still part of our team,” added Roxanne Sayegh, from the Cinéma Moderne, about Anne-Julie Lalande, who is now the floor manager and head of communications there.

The possibilities for internships are endless. Students can find themselves working on a wide range of tasks, as long as they are related to their field of study, in many types of NGOs, whether they are festivals, museums, artist-run centers, or others.
