This Fall, QUESCREN held a number of events where work that that either directly related to or has an impact on Quebec's English-speaking communities was discussed. Check out the topics below and click on the titles to access the full recordings.

Lunch & Learn Series

Does Community Activism make Quebec Anglophones Happier? by Pierre-Olivier Bonin, Ph.D.

Dr. Bonin discussed how participation in organizations, associations, and institutions, and contributes to community autonomy, control and wellbeing. His presentation was followed by a lively discussion with the audience.

The Life of Dr. Dominique Gaspard by Dorothy Williams, Ph.D.

Dr. Dorothy Williams presented her research on the significant yet unknown life of Dr. Dominique Gaspard, whose life speaks of a complexity of language not often explored in narratives of Quebec’s English-speaking community, particularly in those histories about the province's Black community.

Forum for Youth Insights:Career and Education Orientations for the post-COVID-19 World, in colloboration with Youth 4 Youth Quebec and the Black Commnunity Resource Centre.

This forum was a chance for youth aged 16 - 35 to convene to hear insights from industry experts to help them better prepare for the professional landscape post-COVID 19. 

Employment and Underemployment of English-Speaking Blacks in Quebec, in collaboration with the Black Community Resource Centre.

This event was the first in a series titled "From Vulnerability to Vitality: Building Sustainable English-Speaking Black and African Visible Minority Communities in Quebec".

These events were made possible through the financial support of the Secretariat aux relations avec les Québécois d'expression anglaise, the Department of Canadian Heritage, Concordia University, the Canadian Institute for Research on Linguistic Minorities, the Black Studies Centre and the and the Consortium of English-language CEGEPS, Colleges and Universities of Quebec (CELCCUQ).

L’activisme communautaire rend-il les Anglo-Québécois plus heureux? par Pierre-Olivier Bonin, Ph.D. (science politique)

Dans cette session, Monsieur Bonin a discuté du rôle de la participation communautaire comme facteur favorisant l’autonomie et le bien-être des communautés québécoises d’expression anglaise.

La vie du Dr. Dominique Gaspard par Dorothy Williams, Ph.D.

Dorothy Williams a présenté ses recherches sur la vie marquante mais peu connue du Dr Dominique Gaspard (1884-1938). Sa vie est marquée de complexités entourant la langue qui sont rarement explorées dans les récits de la communauté d’expression anglaise du Québec, en particulier dans les histoires sur les Noirs de la province.
