Announcement

  • On 11 December, MIGS will co-host the Canada Launch of the Global Terrorism Index, in partnership with the Institute for Economics and Peace and the Professional Development Institute at University of Ottawa. To register for the Ottawa event, please click here.

 

  • MIGS is pleased to announce the appointment of Zach Devereaux as a Digital Fellow.

Upcoming Events

  • On 9 December, MIGS will host an event titled “25 years later – the rebirth of Kigali,” where two leading African experts, Njeri Cerere and Vincent Rwigamba, will talk about the evolution of the City of Kigali since the 1994 Rwanda genocide.

 

 

  • On 9 December, MIGS will host “Rwanda’s lessons for humanity,” in partnership with Véhicule Press to commemorate the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of Genocide. The event will feature Christine Magill, genocide survivors Bertin Muhizi and Marie Josée Gicali, United Nations peacekeeping veteran Sammy Sampson and Frank Chalk, Professor of History at Concordia University.

Recent events

  • November 12, MIGS’ Executive Director Kyle Matthews attended the Paris Peace Forum.
  • On 13 and 14 November, MIGS’ Executive Director Kyle Matthews travelled to Switzerland to brief Swiss diplomats on social media, human rights and possible policy responses to online hate.

  • On 22 November, MIGS delivered a training course on social media and public diplomacy for Canadian diplomats at the Canadian Foreign Service Institute.

 

  • On 27 November, MIGS, in partnership with the Montreal Holocaust Museum, organized a conference titled “Par-delà les débats : l’ENFFADA et l’appel à l’action”, which featured MIGS Fellow Fannie Lafontaine, Isabelle Picard, Cyndy Wylde and Yolande Cohen.
  • On 27 November, MIGS participated in a Twitter chat hosted by the Center for International Governance Innovation that focused on platform governance. The Twitter story is available here.
  • On 28 November, MIGS and Element AI held a Twitter chat on the recently launched report “Closing the human rights gap in AI governance”.  The Twitter story is available here should you want to follow the conversation.

  • On 29 November, MIGS co-organized with the Chaire Raoul-Dandurand the international symposium “Cybersécurité, ingérence politique et manipulation de l’information”. Marie Lamensch chaired a panel titled “Le rôle des citoyens, des médias et de la société civile face aux menaces multidimensionnelles”. A podcast of the conference will be available soon.

  • On 3 December, MIGS Fellow Mark Kersten moderated a discussion titled "It’s about time – revisiting the timing and duration of decision-making at the #ICC" organized by the Wayamo Foundation as a side event to the Assembly of States Parties 2019.
  • On 4 December, MIGS hosted an event titled “Canada is back, prise 2?”, co-organized by le Centre d’études et de recherches internationales (CÉRIUM) and the Canadian International Council Montreal Branch. Aphrodite Salas, Daniel Béland and Jocelyn Coulon talked about Canada’s foreign policy.
