"Boko Haram Raids Two Borno Communities, Kills Four" Daily Independent, Lagos State-based Daily, 16 February 2016

  • Suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Friday raided two villages, Mairi and Malari in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno, killing four persons and razing houses in the communities
  • The attacks occurred barely one week after the Dalori incident in which some 100 persons were killed
  • “The community was taken unaware as many people were relaxing after the late night Muslim prayers,” Malam Baana Bukar, a resident said.

"Boko Haram Kills 30 in Attacks on Borno Villages" This Day, Lagos-based Daily, 15 February 2015

  • Boko Haram militants killed at least 30 people during attacks on two villages over two days in Borno State
  • Gunmen in pickups and on bicycles stormed the remote villages of Yakshari and Kachifa in Damboa district, slaughtering villagers
  • The day before, the Islamist militants raided nearby Kachifa village, killing villagers and taking property

"Military Clears More Boko Haram Enclaves, Rescues 196 Captives" This Day, Lagos-based Daily, 18 February 2016

  • The Nigerian troops of 7 Division Garrison, comprising 112 Battalion and Armed Forces Special Forces, have carried out a  joint clearance  patrol of suspected Boko Haram terrorists’ locations at Kwaptara, Mijigete, Garin Boka, Mosole, Ngubdori, Ma’asa, Dukje and Gulumba in Dikwa and Bama Local Government Areas of Borno State
  • The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, in a statement on Thursday, said that the troops discovered Boko Haram terrorists camp, patent medicine outfit and major market at Gulumba
  • According to him, some military items such as camouflage uniforms as well as rifle magazines and grenades, were recovered from the terrorists

"Cameroonian Troops Hand over Suspected Terrorists to Nigerian Army" This Day, Lagos-based Daily, 16 February 2016

  • The Cameroonian armed forces have handed over to the Nigerian military several suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorist group
  • The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, in a statement yesterday, said that the “cooperation with our neighbours have brought renewed vigour and is yielding results in the fight against the Boko Haram terrorists.”
  • Usman said apart from recording tremendous success, troops of 26 Task Force Brigade, had joined the Cameroonian forces a joint operations in Kirawa junction

"Troops Kill 162 Boko Haram Insurgents – Cameroonian Commissioner" Vanguard, Lagos-based Daily, 16 February 2016

  • Cameroonian Communication Minister, Issa Bakary, said on Tuesday that Cameroonian and Nigerian troops have taken a key base of Boko Haram in northern Nigeria, killing 162 insurgents. The assault lasted four day
  • Hundreds of people held hostage by the terrorists were also released
  • Cameroon lost two soldiers to land mines during the assault

"UN Released $58m to Assist IDPs in 2015" Vanguard, Lagos-based Daily,  16 February 2016

  • The UN has released 58 million U.S. dollars to assist 2.4 million people affected by Boko Haram-related violence in 2015
  • The Emergency Relief Coordinator has released more than 58 million U.S. dollars from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) for life-saving assistance in response to Boko Haram-related violence

"U.S. Pledges Support after Suicide Attack on IDP Camp" This Day, Lagos-based Daily, 12 February 2016

  • The United States has reiterated its commitment to helping Nigeria fight the Boko Haram scourge after Wednesday’s suicide bombing of an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Dikwa, Borno State
  • This came as the European Union condemned the deadly attack which left about 58 people dead and scores injured
  • Emergency workers said the incidents occurred when the IDPs queued up to collect their breakfast in a camp that currently accommodates over 50,000 people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency

"Nigerian Army, AI Disagree over Extent of Investigation of Human Rights Violations" This Day, 18 February 2016

  • The Nigerian Army and Amnesty International (AI) have disagreed over the extent and desirability of investigations into the human rights allegations leveled against the military last year during their counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations against the Boko Haram terrorists in the North-east
  • Speaking after a more than one hour closed-door meeting with the AI team, Buratai insisted that the Nigerian Army has carried out their own investigation with those found culpable in the various human rights abuses punished
