1. FDLR is the cause of crimes in North Kivu 
State-owned media

(Agence Congolaise Presse, government-owned news agency, article dated 29 February 2016, in French) Les FDLR à la base des crimes actuels dans le Nord-Kivu

  • Minister of Communication and Media, Lambert Mende Omalanga accused Rwandan militia FDLR as perpetrators of the alleged conflict between Hutu and Nande in North Kivu.
  • FDLR are attacking some Congolese communities as well, to oppose, said the minister.

2 Beni: 13 people killed by the ADF

  • 13 people killed with machetes 29 February by Ugandan rebels, ADF.
  • There are 4 people reported missing as well, armed attack took place in Beni in North Kivu.
  • Rebels suspected of also stealing drugs from the Mambabio health center before wounding a nurse. 

3. Residents of Nyankunde, kill 2 soldiers and 1 police officer

(Radio-Okapi, independent/privately-owned newspaper, article dated 1 March 2016, in French) Ituri: un policier et deux militaires tués à Nyakunde

  • 29 February, the people of Ituri   killed a police officer and two soldiers.
  • The cause of deaths stem from tensions within the village, a police officer was killed in the midst.
  • Two soldiers were killed by local residents, one burned alive, the other with machetes. 

4. South Kivu: Raïa Mutomboki militia burn over 100 houses

  • 1 March, the Raïa Mutomboki militia burned over 100 houses in the village of Bunyangungu. There were no deaths.
