1. MINUSCA peacekeepers clash with Seleka fighters in Sibut

  • The CAR minister of public security confirmed in a statement on 10 October that international forces had stopped the march of an armed group toward Bangui. The armed men were part of the Front Populaire pour la Renaissance de la Centrafrique (FPRC), a branch of the Seleka movement under the command of Nourredine Adam.
  • The fighting between the FPRC and international forces took place near the town of Sibut.
  • The minister said that he hopes this incident sends a clear message to other armed groups and will encourage them to join negotiations, rather than fight.

  • New clashes were reported between international forces and ex-Seleka fighters who were attempting to move toward Bangui. The fighting took place about 12 kilometers east of Sibut, 180 kilometers north of Bangui.
  • Approximately a dozen ex-Seleka fighters were killed in the fighting.
  • The sounds of combat created widespread panic among the civilian population, who fled Sibut to take cover in the bush.

 

 

2. MINUSCA peacekeepers clash with Seleka fighters in Sibut

3. Armed individuals fire at MINUSCA headquarters in Bangui

  • A group of unidentified armed individuals opened fire on the UN peacekeepers guarding the MINUSCA headquarters in Bangui.
  • According to the report from MINUSCA, the UN soldiers fired back, forcing the armed group to flee on a motorbike.
  • The Special Representative of the Secretary-General in CAR, Parfait Onanga-Anyanga, said in a statement that this act can constitute a war crime and urged UN peacekeepers to remain vigilant in their work.
