1. CAR elections lack adequate funding, may be delayed
Privately-owned media

  • Transitional president Catherine Samba-Panza called on the international community to fully furnish the aid that has been promised to the country, noting that $17 million is still needed to carry out the elections planned for this year.
  • She noted that logistical and financial difficulties are the reason for the proposed postponement of elections, which are expected to be delayed until after August 2015.
  •  The UN also reported that only 21% of the $613 million needed to meet the country's humanitarian needs in 2015 has been provided by member countries. 
2. Twelve people kidnapped and killed in Bouca

  • According to reports from local officials, two people were kidnapped by an unidentified armed group in the northern town of Bouca on Sunday 17 May. Another ten people were killed by unidentified armed men in the nearby towns of Marazé and Kozoro.
  • The insecurity has caused thousands of residents to leave Bouca and surrounding towns in recent weeks, sometimes fleeing into the bush.

 

3. Samba-Panza announces the creation of a post-Forum committee

  • Transitional President Catherine Samba-Panza announced that she will hold a meeting next Friday with key leaders to begin the process of creating a follow-up committee for the recommendations of the recent Bangui Forum.
  • Samba-Panza stated that the meeting will aim to determine the committee's "mission, its composition, its length, its financing, all these aspects, we must determine them in a consensual manner."
