7 June

Shannon N. Green, MIGS Digital Fellow, moderated the launch of ‘The Global Peace Index 2017 Launch’ hosted by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

12 - 13 June

Nicolai Pogadl attended the 25th IEFX Strategy Conference 2017 to discuss freedom of expression and ways to strengthen resilience against attacks on human rights advocates.

13 June
MIGS hosted Mauritanian anti-slavery activist Biram Dah Abeid, President of Initiative for the Resurgence of the Abolitionist Movement, to discuss his important work against slavery and genocide in Mauritania and the role MIGS and Canada can play in advancing his work. Biram has been named one of the ‘100 Most Influential People in the World 2017’ by Time magazine and recently participated in the #RightsCity event in Montreal.

14 June
Kyle Matthews delivered the keynote address on “Human Rights in the Age of Global Extremism” at The Lord Reading Law Society.

16 June
Following #RightsCity, MIGS and Amnistie Internationale Canada Francophone organized a public event in Montreal to help liberate Raif Badawi and other prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia. The event was covered by Global News in an article entitled “5 years in a Saudi prison: Blogger Raif Badawi’s supporters call on Trudeau to do more”.

18 - 21 June

MIGS Fellow Diego Osorio participated in the 6th Global Diplomacy Lab in Buenos Aires, Argentina, “Cutting Edge Networks: Interweaving Regional Capacities for Mass Atrocity Prevention at the Local Level” .


22 June

Marie Lamensch gave a lecture at the CERIUM at Universite de Montreal about “Understanding Contemporary and Armed Conflicts: Mass Violence and Genocide”.
