On October 13, 2023, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Concordia University proudly hosted the 10th installment of the Professor T.D. Dwivedi Memorial Lecture series. This annual lecture series, established through an endowment and made possible through a generous contribution by the Dwivedi family, continues to be a tradition within our academic community.

We were honored to have Dr. Nancy Reid from the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto as our speaker for the 2023 lecture. Dr. Reid’s lecture, titled "Theoretical Statistics in Practice," offered valuable insights into the practical applications of theoretical statistical concepts. The lecture was followed by a reception to commemorate the occasion of the series' 10th lecture, which first commenced in 2012.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics would like to extend gratitude to the Dwivedi family for their support and to Dr. Nancy Reid for her engaging presentation.

The theoretical foundations of statistical science distinguish the subject from the many fields of research in which statistical thinking is a key intellectual component. In this talk I will emphasize the ongoing importance and relevance of theoretical advances and theoretical thinking through some illustrative examples from the scientific literature.
