On March 26 and 27, 2025, CSLP member and co-Director of the Canadian Practitioners Network for the Prevention of Extremist Violence (CPN-PREV) Ghayda Hassan, and Zeina Ismail-Allouche, CSLP Research Coordinator and Director of Partnerships and Program Development at CPN-PREV, co-facilitated a workshop in Halifax titled "Towards a Shared Vision on Safeguarding Community Safety and Youth from Hate and Violent Extremism (PVE): A Multidisciplinary and Intersectoral Approach to Strengthening Youth Resilience."
This initiative, led by the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) Department of Community Safety, in collaboration with the CPN-PREV and Public Safety Canada’s Center for Community Engagement and Prevention of Violence (CCEPV), gathered HRM staff and representatives from other local organizations for an in-depth discussion on current prevention of violent extremism (PVE) efforts.
Through an interactive and anti-oppressive approach, participants examined the existing landscape of youth-focused PVE initiatives, social tensions, barriers to collaboration, and resource gaps. The workshop also served as a platform to identify actionable strategies and strengthen multidisciplinary partnerships to better support youth resilience and community safety.
