In an interview with the CBC News, Ming Li explained that it was almost impossible to determine with certainty why Quebecers voted for the CAQ in the Fall 2018 provincial election. Even with an economy in excellent condition, factors like strategic voting by Parti Québecois voters, dissatisfaction with some of the Liberal Party’s policies, and the desire for change through a new, untried party may have led to the CAQ’s victory. Dr. Li, an expert in economic game theory, reminded the readers that the average voter does not necessarily only consider their economic self-interest when deciding how to cast their ballot. Psychological factors play an important role as well.
