Concordia professor Marisa Portolese is having an exhibit about Montreal's former Goose Village neighbourhood at the Occurrence art gallery in Montreal from January 20 to March 11, 2023.

The exhibit, called "Goose Village", tells the story of the former neighbourhood which was demolished in 1964 in anticipation of Expo67. The southwest neighbourhood, once home to a vibrant immigrant community, has since disappeared from Montreal’s maps.

Portolese, an associate professor of photography in the Department of Studio Arts, retraces her family history in the neighbourhood and rediscovers the streets her parents used to call home. Through archival images and oral history interviews, Portolese unearths the history of this once-thriving neighbourhood and calls attention to Montreal’s historical treatment of often impoverished immigrants.

Attend the vernissage at Occurrence art gallery (5455 De Gaspé #108) on January 19 from 5 – 8 p.m. or visit the exhibit from January 20 – March 11.
