The COHDS/SOHC Summer Institute is a collaboration between Concordia's Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling and the Scottish Oral History Centre at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland.

For the third time, affiliates of both centres are meeting for a collegial exchange about new research in oral history. The theme of the 2021 Summer Institute is "Embodied Stories: Gender, the Body, and Oral History." Organized by former lead co-director of COHDS, Dr. Cynthia Hammond (Department of Art History), this Institute asks presenters to explore how oral history practices, including research-creation, can illuminate questions of gender and embodiment.

In addition to sixteen short papers by students, scholars, and affiliates of COHDS and SOHC (June 7 and 8), this year’s Institute includes two workshops on digital mapping, filmmaking, and virtual reality (June 9). Registrants will have access to a Zoom breakout room featuring media projects related to the theme of this Institute. Two public conversations on the Institute's central theme, one synchronous and one asynchronous, will round out this year's offerings. Events will take place on Zoom and in the morning, Eastern Daylight Time, to accommodate the time difference between Montreal and Glasgow.
