Jim Gavin

Over the past 18 years, Dr. Gavin has become keenly involved in studies and professional pursuits related to the new field of professional coaching. He holds certifications as a Master Certified Coach (MCC) from the International Coach Federation and as an Integral Master Coach (IMC) from Integral Coaching Canada. Along with his colleague, Dr. Madeleine Mcbrearty, he has developed one of the finest coach certification programs in Canada and has expanded the perspective of coaching from individual models to team coaching paradigms. He and Dr. Mcbrearty published a comprehensive textbook on coaching, which extensively details the core elements and skills underlying the International Coach Federation’s 11 Core Coaching Competencies. Lifestyle Wellness Coaching (Human Kinetics, 2013) is thought to be a classic text in the field.

Dr. Gavin has also devoted considerable attention to the somatic basis for human development and personal change, with a particular focus on how everyday physical activities can serve as adjuncts to personal growth and personality change initiatives. He has developed a unique model for person-activity matching that has been widely adopted across North America as a method for assisting individuals with adherence to active living regimens. He is a licensed psychologist in the Province of Quebec and a Master Certified Coach in the ICF.

About the book

James Peters had no idea that the trip he was about to take would change his life forever. It wasn’t because something profound was about to happen, it was the contrary. He decided to speak to another passenger on a simple train ride from Montreal to Ottawa. In doing so, he changed the course of his life forever.

Life is like a train on its track, where every decision you make changes from one track to another. You normally coast through life without ever realizing that the small choices you make end up having the greatest impact on your future self.

Do you remember why you started to see your significant other?

Why did you decide to go to one school over another?

How about why you didn’t speak to the person sitting next to you on the airplane as you went on your latest vacation?

Next Station, Life defines a life model where you can see the other life tracks not taken and the benefits of realizing the impact small changes in life can make. Even the very smallest decision can set your life on a path you never realized possible.
