Join Concordia President Graham Carr for a virtual address to our global alumni community. Debra Arbec, BA 89, host of CBC News Montreal at 6, will moderate the conversation.

Learn how Concordia has risen to the challenges of the past year and found innovative ways to grow and excel in several key areas. President Carr will also share his vision to secure Concordia’s place among the top universities in Canada and the world.

Graham Carr, Concordia President

Graham is president and vice-chancellor of Concordia University. His previous leadership positions at Concordia include provost and vice-president, Academic Affairs; vice-president, Research and Graduate Studies; and dean of Graduate Studies.

Born in Quebec, Graham earned his PhD from the University of Maine and is a Professor in the Department of History. His research focuses on North American cultural history, in particular cultural diplomacy and the Cold War.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Centraide (United Way) of Greater Montreal and as the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) representative on the Board of U SPORTS, the national brand for university sports in Canada. Graham is also a member of the Research Committee of Universities Canada and sits on the Steering Committee of Montreal Climate Partnership (Partenariat Climat Montréal).

Debra Arbec, BA 89, event moderator

Debra hosts CBC News Montreal at 6. The veteran reporter and anchor has been covering daily news in Montreal for more than 25 years. She started out her career in radio and made the switch to television news just in time for the 1998 Quebec ice storm.

From the anchor desk and in the field, over the last couple of decades, Debra has covered many of the biggest news stories in the province. Here at CBC, that includes the election night shooting at the Parti Quebecois victory rally and the devastating Lac Megantic train disaster.

Throughout her career, she has received several RTDNA journalism awards for reporting and is a proud alumna of Concordia University's Journalism Department.

When she is not working, Debra is usually walking her dogs - Scooter and Libby - cooking, playing tennis, running marathons.
