Dr. Franseen's Imagining Musical Pasts: The Queer Literary Musicology of Vernon Lee, Rosa Newmarch, and Edward Prime-Stevenson, forthcoming book from Clemson University Press in October/November 2023), explores the variety of sources, approaches to musical interpretation, and literary genres present in selected queer historical writings on opera and symphonic music from ca. 1880-1935. In this seminar she will explore the path this project took and focus on interdisciplinary methods in queer and feminist histories.
Dr. Kristin M. Franseen is a postdoctoral fellow in history at Concordia University, where she is also a research affiliate with the Simone de Beauvoir Institute. Her research is supported by postdoctoral and knowledge mobilization grants from the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Société et Culture (FRQSC). Her work focuses on the place of gossip, anecdote, and other unreliable sources in the history of musicology and composer biography.
