Colby Gaudet

Thesis title: Sacramental Communities: Atlantic World Catholics and Social Formations in British Nova Scotia

Colby Gaudet is a PhD candidate in the Department of Religions and Cultures at Concordia University. He is an interdisciplinary researcher studying histories of religion, empire, and colonialism. Colby's questions employ religion to analyze intercultural relations in the colonial Americas, with specializations in Atlantic slavery, gender, humanitarianism, and Indigenous-settler treaties. His research also engages decolonial practices and critically reflects on the politics of archives. Colby has a master’s degree in Indigenous & Interreligious Studies (Vancouver School of Theology, 2018), and undergraduate degrees in Creative Writing (Concordia, 2008) and English (Dalhousie, 2006). In 2021 Colby was the lead investigator for the research project “Exploring Concordia’s Colonial Past: An Examination of the University’s Past and Present Relationships with Indigenous Peoples.”
