Anne-Marie Trépanier

Thesis title: "Everything in moderation except…": Networked media practices and information activism on the Ada X’s early websites

Anne-Marie Trépanier is an MA student in the Media Studies program at Concordia University, located in Tiohtià:ke/ Montreal. They hold a BFA in Intermedia/Cyberarts from Concordia University obtained with Great Distinction. Under the supervision of Dr. Krista Lynes, Anne-Marie’s master’s thesis studies the early web archives from Ada X, a Montreal-based artist-run centre that aimed to open cyberspace to women and give them the tools to develop a critical and creative engagement with new technologies. Through a mapping of archives, practices and resources, their research project aims to explore this online space and to expose the care work that goes behind producing, updating and networking feminist media practices and activism online. Their research is supported by the SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship and the FRQSC Graduate Scholarship. In parallel with their studies, Anne-Marie co-edits Cigale, a bilingual journal of contemporary artists’ writings, and collaborates on various artistic projects. They have contributed writings to the Concordia Undergraduate Journal of Art History, Architecture Concordia, Spirale, Synoptique: An Online Journal of Film and Moving Images and esse magazine. At Concordia, they are a student-researcher at the Digital Intimacy, Gender and Sexuality (DIGS) Lab, and previously worked as a research assistant for the project “Archive/Counter-Archive”.
