This session will provide general information on filing a Canadian income tax return by international students. Topics discussed will include:

  • Who is required to file an income tax return;
  • How and when to complete the tax returns;
  • The difference between your Social Insurance Number and your Individual Tax Number;
  • Which records and forms must be kept when filing your income tax return.

While this information session will not involve completing income tax forms on the spot, we will provide you with scenarios of typical tax situations for an international student, which can then be used as a guide to complete your tax return.

This workshop is facilitated by Concordia’s senior lecturer Tara Ramsaran, MBA, CA, CPA who specializes in taxation, including individual, corporate, estate and sales taxes. Prof. Ramsaran is also the Director of the Accountancy Co-op Program. She teaches the taxation courses in the undergraduate, CPA and MBA programs.
