PSYC/NEUR courses for students in other programs

The override procedure described below is for students in programs other than Psychology or Neuroscience who wish to take individual PSYC/NEUR courses. Please check this page for any Winter 2026 updates that may come in December or January. The information on this page is subject to change at any time. This page will be updated again for the 2026-2027 academic year by April 2026.

Registration information for PSYC/NEUR courses: OVERRIDE PROCEDURE

All 200-level PSYC/NEUR courses are open to students in other programs but will not count toward Psychology/Neuroscience concentrations (major, specialization or honours) if those programs are entered later.

It is strongly recommended that students who are considering or planning to apply for the Concordia Psychology or Neuroscience program follow the prerequisite sequence to avoid potential registration issues if later admitted. If you are applying for Psychology and do not have PSYC 205, you need to take this class first before taking other PSYC courses. PSYC 205 is not required for Neuroscience. Future Neuroscience applicants should take NEUR 355 first. If you have PSYC 205, PSYC 310 would be next but if you cannot get into that course, you could request other 300-levels; however, it is suggested to limit them since you will likely have to request overrides for future courses if later admitted.

Keep checking the class schedule builder starting at the end of November to see when the course will open to those with prerequisites, should there be any seats available. You can keep trying to register through December and at the start of January as some courses will open at different times. The schedule builder should tell you how many seats are currently reserved for students in the department and you can compare that to the total number of seats available in the course. Seats will open to students with the prerequisites some time between Dec. 1 and Jan. 7, depending on availability.

There are no guarantees for a spot in the course. If a class is full, it is full and not available.

PSYC/NEUR courses that are not listed below are not available to students outside the program. The override form is for 300-level PSYC courses. There is no override form for NEUR courses as the prerequisites are required so you will be able to register through the system if there are enough seats available (see info below). The form is to be used for students who do not have the prerequisites for PSYC courses. If you have the prerequisites but still can’t register, please use the form. Please do not come in person for an override.

The e-form will open on Monday, January 5. Please read the instructions on the e-form before filling it out as they will be updated each semester. Students will only be emailed if they are given permission to register. It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of the strict DNE deadline. The deadline is still the same even If you only register on the DNE deadline day. .

Individual PSYC & NEUR class information

PSYC 205: Limited space available for students outside the department, who can try to get on the waiting list in case a spot opens. A spot will open on the waitlist when a non-program student drops the course or waitlist. If space is still available in the course after all new psych students have registered, then we can start allowing in other students, starting with the waitlist. Spots may open starting in November and continue through December and January. No override form for this course.

PSYC 305: Prereq PSYC 205. Students with the prereq can register sometime between Dec. 1 and Jan. 7. Students who wish to take this course as an elective but don’t have the prereq and don’t plan on taking PSYC 205 can request permission through the override e-form.

PSYC 310: Prereq PSYC 205. If seats remain, the course will open to those with the prereq on Jan. 7. Students without the prereq can request permission through the override e-form.

PSYC 316: Must have prereq of PSYC 315. Course must be requested through the override e-form.

PSYC 363: Prereqs NEUR 355 & PSYC 310/NEUR 356. It is strongly recommended by the professors of this course to have prereq NEUR 355. Course will open to those with the prerequisites sometime between Dec.1 and Jan. 7. If you wish to take this course without the prereqs despite the recommendations, you can fill out the override e-form.

PSYC 315, 321, 325, 333, 340, 341, 351, 354, 364, 372, 374: Prereq PSYC 310. If there are any remaining seats, these courses will open to those with the prerequisite sometime between Dec. 1 and Jan. 7. For those without the prereq, permission must be requested through the override e-form.

NEUR 355: Biology prerequisite is required. Students can check the schedule builder to see if/when there are seats are available for non-program students. Waitlist is always available for students with the prereq as soon as registration opens. There is no override form for this course. If seats remain available, sometime between Dec. 1 and Jan. 7, seats will open to all students with the prereq. The system will allow in the waitlisted students first so if you want a spot, you can try to get on the waitlist.

NEUR 356: Prereq NEUR 355. If this course is available to students outside of these programs, you will be able to register if you have the prereq, sometime between Dec. 1 and Jan. 7. There is no override form for this course.
