  • Wednesdays 14:45-17:15 pm
  • Course delivery: Online
  • Instructor: Dr. Erell Hubert

This course aims to provide an overview of ancient Roman art and architecture from the Etruscans, who preceded the Romans in the Italian peninsula, to the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century CE. Throughout the course, major styles, iconographic themes, and technological innovations will be positioned in their historical and socio-political context. We will pay particular attention to the ties between art and imperialism as well as to the role of art in negotiating united but multiple Roman realities across time and space.
