Karim Zaghib appointed Officer of the Order of Canada

Zaghib’s innovations have played a crucial role in strengthening Canada’s clean energy sector.

Karim Zaghib, CEO of Volt-Age and professor in the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada.

The honour recognizes Zaghib’s leadership in advancing energy storage technologies that are helping build a more sustainable future for Canada.

Zaghib’s research focuses on lithium-ion and solid-state batteries, key technologies supporting the growth of electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. His innovations have played a crucial role in strengthening Canada’s clean energy sector and promoting practical solutions that benefit communities and industries across the country.

Tim Evans, Concordia’s Vice-President, Research, Innovation and Impact, says Zaghib’s visionary research has helped position Canada as a leader in energy innovation.

“Karim s research has directly influenced how Canadian industries store and use energy — from electric vehicles to grid-scale storage. His leadership strengthens Concordia’s capacity in battery science and positions us as a national and global hub for the energy transition.”

The Order of Canada is one of the nation’s highest civilian honours. Established in 1967, it recognizes outstanding achievement and service to Canada. The Officer rank celebrates individuals whose work has had a significant impact on a national level.
