Concordians among latest appointees to Order of Montreal

Explorer, corporate and investment leaders and philanthropists recognized for their contributions to the city

Four members of the Concordia community are among the 17 recipients awarded the insignia of the Order of Montreal on May 8. The city’s highest civic honour recognizes individuals whose exceptional dedication and contributions have helped shape and elevate the influence of the metropolis.

Commander

Stephen Bronfman, donor to Concordia

A philanthropist, social entrepreneur and environmental advocate, Stephen Bronfman serves as executive chairman of Claridge Inc., a private investment firm, and leads the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Family Foundation.

He co-founded the Charles Bronfman Prize and with his wife Claudine Bronfman, established the Claudine and Stephen Bronfman Fellowship in Contemporary Art, a transformative award supporting students at Concordia and Université du Québec à Montréal.

Bernard Voyer, LLD 17

Bernard Voyer is an explorer and mountaineer known for tackling some of the planet’s harshest landscapes, including the Arctic, Antarctica, Mount Everest and the Sahara Desert.

A trailblazer in polar exploration, he made history as the first Canadian to ski to the North Magnetic Pole. Today, Voyer speaks to audiences around the world, drawing on his expeditions to share insights on resilience, leadership and the vulnerability of Earth’s ecosystems. He received an honorary doctorate from Concordia in 2017.

A proud graduate of Loyola College, one of Concordia's founding institutions, Richard Renaud is chairman and CEO of Montreal-based TNG Corporation. He is a philanthropist committed to many causes, including is alma mater. He and his wife Carolyn have funded numerous scholarships and awards at Concordia.

The science complex at Loyola Campus carries his name in recognition of his generosity and ongoing commitment to the university. Renaud served for more than 20 years on the Board of Governors and co-founded the Concordia University Intergenerational Fund, formerly known as the Concordia Foundation. His many honours include an honorary doctorate from Concordia and the Loyola Medal, the university’s highest distinction.

Louise Champoux-Paillé, co-director of Concordia’s Lorenzetti Centre

Louise Champoux-Paillé is a mentor, museologist, economist and corporate director. She has held senior leadership roles across Quebec’s financial and professional services sectors, including president of the Quebec Financial Services Bureau, predecessor to the Autorité des marchés financiers.

Champoux-Paillé is co-director of the Barry F. Lorenzetti Centre for Women in Entrepreneurship and Leadership at Concordia’s John Molson School of Business. A leading voice in governance, ESG and corporate responsibility, she has mentored more than 500 executives and managers while contributing extensively to governance-focused media, training and public dialogue.
