In a powerful display of what the Concordia community can achieve together, 1,608 donors helped raise more than $632,000 for 92 causes during this year’s Giving Tuesday campaign.

Giving Tuesday — the global day of giving that follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday — encourages people around the world to support the causes that matter most to them. Concordia launched its campaign on November 13, inviting alumni, faculty, staff and friends to make a difference where it counts.

This year’s spotlight was on two priorities: the Student Emergency and Food Fund, which helps students facing financial hardship, and the Department of Recreation and Athletics, which enriches athletics programs and student-athlete success.

Donors could also direct their gifts to dozens of other designations across the university, such as Concordia’s Greatest Needs, the Concordia Library, the four faculties and schools, as well as scholarships, bursaries and fellowships.

Fighting food insecurity

Food insecurity remains a serious challenge for many students. Contributions to the Student Emergency and Food Fund provide grocery vouchers and emergency bursaries — practical support that allows students to focus on their studies rather than worrying about their next meal.

Recent surveys show that 67 per cent of students experience some level of food insecurity, with many reporting skipped meals and an impact on their academic performance. Gifts to this fund help break down financial barriers and provide students with the stability they need to thrive.

The Concordia University Alumni Association matched alumni donations to this area up to $7,500.

Go Stingers!

Concordia’s athletics community also showed its support in full force. Some 750 Stingers fans and alumni raised more than $360,000 for the Department of Recreation and Athletics, benefiting 13 varsity teams, athletic therapy and the Recreation and Athletics Priority Fund.

A new addition this year — the donor podium — recognized nearly 30 supporters who contributed $1,000 or more. These gifts help Concordia recruit top athletic talent and ensure student athletes can excel both in their sport and in the classroom.

Thank you to every Concordian who helped make this year’s Giving Tuesday a success. Each gift helps students imagine new possibilities — and helps build a stronger community.
