Concordia Athletics Sports Camps
are back for another summer of fun in the sun.

Week-long sessions offer children and teenagers between the ages of 6 and 15 a chance to play, practice and learn new skills from the university’s varsity athletes and coaches in a safe environment.

Camp director Krzysztof Kmiecik has already noticed an increase in early registrations this year.

“Over the last two years the camps have grown in popularity and we have been receiving a lot of positive feedback,” he says.

“Each summer we alter our programing in order to accommodate for current needs of both parents and children”

The focus, Kmiecik adds, is keeping kids engaged and physically active, while helping them gain confidence, self-esteem and new skills.

The camp sessions focus on three different sports — hockey (ages 10 to 15), flag football and soccer (ages 8 to 14) — and there’s also a multisport option (ages 6 to 14).

They welcome an average of 113 girls and boys per week-long session. A staff of 20 dedicated Concordia varsity athletes and coaches bring valuable experience to the playing field. Many of them return each summer, which adds to the campers’ overall experience, Kmiecik notes.

In 2015, the sports camps added a nutritional component. They secured sponsors, including Dole Canada and Bercy Foods, who donated organic fruit and vegetables twice a week.

"On Mondays and Wednesdays, we talk about nutrition and make healthy smoothies," Kmiecik says. "The kids love them, even the spinach, and are asking for smoothies at home."

Concordia also offers weekend sports clinics for young athletes during the school year, as well as spring break camps and after-school programs.
