The John Molson School of Business celebrates 25 years
The John Molson School of Business, recently named the best business school in Canada by Bloomberg Businessweek, is marking its 25th anniversary this month.
“The Molson name has had a tremendous impact on our reputation and our positioning in the landscape of business schools in the world,” says Dean Anne-Marie Croteau. “Today, we are one of the biggest business schools in Canada. The timing of the Bloomberg ranking couldn’t be better – we can proudly say we are the best in Canada as we celebrate 25 years.”
On November 29, 2000, Concordia’s Faculty of Commerce and Administration became the John Molson School of Business thanks to a donation from the Molson family and the Molson Foundation.
The school is named for entrepreneur John Molson (1763-1836), an innovator and philanthropist whose contributions to Montreal can still be felt today.
In addition to the Bloomberg ranking, the School achieved EQUIS accreditation this year, a goal Croteau has been pursuing since she became dean in 2017.
EQUIS status, which is granted by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) Global, requires a rigorous and selective assessment process. In fact, the John Molson School is among just 1.3% of business schools worldwide to attain it.
The School scored high for its research in ethics, responsibility and sustainability, robust student support services, competitive case competition programs, hands-on learning experiences, strong industry ties, and excellent preparation for graduate employment.
In 1997, the School became the first in Quebec to earn full accreditation from AACSB International — the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
This ‘double crown’ accreditation positions the John Molson School of Business among the less than one per cent of business schools worldwide that hold both EQUIS and AACSB accreditation.
“Anniversaries are a great opportunity to stop and reflect on how far you’ve come,” says Croteau.
“But I also see it as an opportunity to look at where we want to be. It’s thanks to our community – students, faculty, alumni, staff, community and business partners – that we continue to achieve excellence. I know the next 25 years will bring continued growth as we pursue our vision to be one of the world’s most relevant, responsible and respected business schools.”
