Chase Martin, an incoming Master of Fine Arts student at Concordia’s Faculty of Fine Arts, has been named one of this year’s recipients of the Baxter & Alma Ricard Foundation Scholarship. Originally from Winnipeg, Martin is among a select group of francophone students from minority-language communities across Canada recognized for their academic and creative potential.

The foundation awards scholarships ranging from $15,000 to $50,000 to support post-secondary studies in French, anywhere in the world.

“The Baxter & Alma Ricard Foundation has had a profound impact on my life, giving me the opportunity to return to my studies and deepen my artistic practice. Thanks to this scholarship, I can create without financial stress and work with true creative freedom. It allows me to fully dedicate myself to exploring new visual languages in my painting. I now have the space to take bold risks, to experiment — and even to fail. I’m deeply grateful for this invaluable period of grace at the beginning of my artistic career in Montreal,” underlines Chase Martin.

Martin will begin his MFA in Studio Arts, painting specialization, at Concordia this fall.

“We believe in the power of knowledge and the importance of supporting young francophones in minority communities. By offering personalized guidance and concrete support toward higher education, we help foster a new generation of leaders,” stated the Foundation. “Our scholarship recipients push boundaries in their respective fields and, through their talent and dedication, help build a more just, inclusive, and inspiring society.”

“Francophone life in minority settings is a force in motion — creative, plural, and firmly future-oriented. At the Foundation, we are privileged to support this energy by backing an ambitious new wave of scholars who bring knowledge, voices, and visions that reimagine the world,” added Elia Eliev, Executive Director of the Baxter & Alma Ricard Foundation.
