Job Postings - Gallery Research Assistant & Guide

This is a Work Study position.

In order to apply for the Gallery Research Assistant/Guide position you must be Work Study authorized for QUEBEC FUNDED (Q status) projects. Required Skills and Knowledge

The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication
skills as well as a genuine interest in contemporary art and an aptitude for research. Ideally, candidates should be pursuing a graduate degree in Art History, Art Education, or Studio Arts and must be fluently bilingual. The candidate must be responsible, mature, capable of undertaking research projects and able to work both independently and collaboratively.

Duties

The Education Research Assistant and Guide will conduct tours of exhibitions and be involved in other Education and Public Programming events and activities, both as a researcher and as a facilitator. The Education Research Assistant and Guide is responsible for learning exhibition content and for contributing to the process of researching and compiling background material relevant to the Gallery's programming. She/he is expected to participate actively in the development of touring strategies in collaboration with the Education and Public Programs Coordinator, according to mutually established schedules. The Education Research Assistant and Guide is expected to develop research material and animate tours in a manner that reflects the Gallery's interests.

Experience gained

In addition to acquiring a general understanding of the workings of an art gallery, the Education Research Assistant and Guide will specifically learn about the Education and Public Programming area of the Gallery's operations and will enrich her/his knowledge of contemporary art, art theory and art education pedagogy. The Education Research Assistant and Guide will acquire guiding experience, which encompasses the development of interpersonal and communication skills. Additionally she/he will have a unique opportunity to develop research skills and witness the ways in which research is directly applied to Gallery programming.

Schedule

Approximately 6 - 8 hours per week to be scheduled in consultation with the Education and Public Programs Coordinator. Applicants should be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 12:30 and 2:30 pm to conduct walk-in tours.

This position pays $12.00 per hour and starts at the beginning of September.

Aboriginal Art Research Group (AARG)

Do you want to get involved in your department?
Great, then the Aboriginal Art Research Group (AARG) is the perfect group for you to join!

We bring in speakers, organize film screenings, and go to galleries, all in order to foster dialogue about Aboriginal Art both at Concordia and in Montreal, more broadly. We are always looking for new members to get involved and help us with our events, and this year, we have two spots open on our executive. This is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Events Coordinator

Do you like planning and putting on events? Do crudites and dip make your world complete? If so, you should apply to be our Events Coordinator. You'll work closely with the other members of our executive to plan our programming for the year and make sure that our events and outings go as smoothly as possible. You'll also get to collaborate with other awesome groups in the Department of Art History, namely CUJAH and EAHR.

Financial Coordinator

Do you want to improve your grant writing skills? Are you an Excel sheet wizard? Then you should consider filling the role of the Financial Coordinator. You'll be working with the other coordinators to write grants and apply for funding at Concordia. You'll also manage the budget and help us figure out how we can make our plans happen.
