qMatter workshop

Join artist Aaron McIntosh for a series of participatory workshops unfolding this fall alongside his exhibition 𝑯𝒐𝒕 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 / 𝑴𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒆 in the Main Space. 

Each participant is asked to bring something that marks their queerness or a queer loved one that will be shredded and pulped using papermaking processes to break down the contributed material into a communal form of compost. Consider bringing letters, important novels, posters, t-shirts, underwear, bandanas/hankies, magazine or newspaper clippings. All materials should be mostly of natural origin, such as cotton, paper, hemp, silk, etc. After macerating the collective materials, we will form the pulp into small pinch pots and add “critter juice,” or compost activator, which you can take home and start or add to your own compost pile.

Participants will be gifted a copy of the project zine to take home. The gallery is wheelchair accessible.

Rejoignez l’artiste Aaron McIntosh pour une série d’ateliers participatifs qui se dérouleront cet automne parallèlement à son exposition 𝑯𝒐𝒕 𝑯𝒐𝒖𝒔𝒆 / 𝑴𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒆 dans l’espace principal. 

Chaque participant·e est invité·e à apporter quelque chose qui symbolise son identité queer ou celle d'un être cher queer. Cet objet sera déchiqueté et réduit en pâte à papier afin d'être transformé en compost communautaire. Vous pouvez apporter des lettres, des romans importants, des affiches, des t-shirts, des sous-vêtements, des bandanas/mouchoirs de poche, des coupures de magazines ou de journaux. Tous les matériaux doivent être principalement d'origine naturelle, tels que le coton, le papier, le chanvre, la soie, etc. Après avoir macéré les matériaux collectés, nous formerons la pâte en petits pots et y ajouterons du « jus de créature », ou activateur de compost, que vous pourrez emporter chez vous et partir, ou ajouter à votre propre tas de compost.

Les participant·e·s recevront également un copie du zine du projet à emporter chez eux. La galerie est accessible en fauteuil roulant.
