Blood Quantum Film Screening

Join us for a screening of this 2019 Canadian horror film written, directed, and edited by acclaimed Mi'kmaw filmmaker and former Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema student  Jeff Barnaby. We're deeply saddened to learn that Jeff recently died of cancer at age 46. The Montreal-based writer-director is considered a visionary of modern Indigenous cinema. His 2013 debut feature film, Rhymes for Young Ghouls, gained acclaim for its critique of Canada's residential school system in a way that hadn't been widely seen in cinema before. Starring an Indigenous cast, Blood Quantum made an enormous impression on its audience, winning seven Canadian Screen Awards in 2021. Special guests will join us to discuss the film and Jeff's impact.
