If the Canadian aviation industry wants to soar into the next generation as a true global leader, it must develop disruptive technologies in autonomy and decarbonization. And you can help by taking this in-depth, 19-week program created by Concordia Institute of Aerospace Design and Innovation (CIADI) in partnership with industry professionals. Here, you’ll learn all about recent strides in energy transformation while exploring the concepts of sustainability, life cycle assessment, sustainable aviation fuels and much more. In short, you’ll acquire the knowledge and skills you need to launch the next chapter in your aerospace career and contribute to the industry's sustainable and environmentally conscious efforts and achievements.

Prerequisites: A CEGEP-level understanding of engineering, chemistry, calculus and basic programming is preferred but not required.

This certificate explores four distinct modules in depth:

  • Energy storage and conversion.

Our approach

Featuring a mix of synchronous and asynchronous online activities and hands-on learning, this program is led by seasoned industry professionals who’ll guide you through four distinct modules. Over the course of 19 weeks, you will spend five to six hours per week participating in Zoom meetings, asynchronous Moodle lectures, and knowledge checks.

Upon successful completion of the training, you’ll receive a certificate, giving you a distinctively competitive edge in the aerospace job market.

In short, students will acquire the knowledge and skills they need to launch the next chapter in their aerospace career and contribute to the industry's sustainable and environmentally conscious efforts and achievements. 

This certificate covers four distinct modules: 

  • Introduction to sustainability and life cycle assessment; 
  • Sustainable aviation fuels; 
  • Hydrogen production, storage and use; 
  • Energy storage and conversion. 

Over the course of 19 weeks, you will spend five to six hours per week participating in Zoom meetings, asynchronous Moodle lectures, and knowledge checks. Those with little to no prior knowledge will require more time to gain familiarity with the concepts.

Asynchronous learning: Asynchronous learning is all the other activities in an online course that students can complete on their own schedule.

Synchronous learning: Synchronous learning is any activity in an online course that happens in real-time, like a Zoom meeting or a chat.

Students should expect to dedicate approximately four to five hours a week to projects and assignments outside of the live sessions. Those with little to no prior knowledge will require more time to gain familiarity with the concepts.

This program is intended for aerospace engineers, however anyone is welcome to apply. A CEGEP-level understanding of engineering, chemistry, calculus and basic programming is preferred but not required.  

These programs satisfy the OIQ (Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec) requirement that engineers complete a minimum of 30 hours of continuing education over a two-year period.
