Manages/coordinates the daily operation of the department; planning, monitoring and initiating improvements for operational policies and practices.
Manages the department’s operating budget, as well as development, trust and endowment funds; approves operational budget expenditures; research, compile and analyze information for use in negotiating departmental resources.
Advises and assists faculty, staff and students regarding university/faculty/departmental policies and procedures.
Administers full-time faculty, part-time faculty, support staff and teaching assistant collective agreements; activates critical paths and ensures that deadlines are met.
Initiates, establishes and implements policies and procedures regarding non-academic staff, including supervising, hiring, disciplinary actions, coordinating workloads, vacations and absences.
Assigns, manages and maintains full-time faculty workloads; coordinates teaching/research remissions and maintains records.
Organizes and coordinates the postings and hiring of all part-time faculty and serves as the resource person on the Part-Time Hiring Committee.
Organizes departmental faculty meetings and transcribes records of minutes; organizes other departmental meetings, conferences, and special events; disseminates administrative and academic material on behalf of the Chair.
Develops annual department course schedules in conjunction with the Associate Chair and the Chair; advises the Chair on course offerings required for academic programs; enters course data on the university course schedule system and departmental database.
Monitors enrolment and admission quotas, and provides recommendations for course additions/cancellations.
Manages physical facilities, including recommendations on equipment purchases and replacements; administers space and office assignments; coordinates access privileges and key control.
Maintains departmental website and departmental filing system/records.
