Awards, scholarships & bursaries

Learn about the College's awards, scholarships and bursaries that reward outstanding students in and out of the classroom. 

Merit-based awards

The following awards are nominated and awarded to students based on their outstanding performance in these areas. 

Academic Achievement Award

This award recognizes academic excellence among our students. It is automatically awarded to the graduating student with the highest grade point average. No application is required. Students graduating with either the Minor in Sustainability Studies or the Minor in Diversity and the Contemporary World are eligible.

Citizenship Award

This award recognizes the outstanding volunteer work our students do outside of the classroom for local or international organizations. It is awarded to the graduating student who has demonstrated the greatest commitment to such organizations in their time at Concordia.

To apply for this award, please send a short (500-word maximum) description of any relevant work you have done in your time at Concordia by May 31st of your graduating year to loyolacollege.fas@concordia.ca.  

Student Engagement Award 

This award is an endowment made possible by a young LCDS alumnus who  rewards student involvement in the Minor in Diversity and the Contemporary World or the Minor in Sustainability Studies at the LCDS.

To apply for this award, please send a short description (500-word maximum) of any relevant work you have done in your time at Concordia by June 6th of your graduating year to loyolacollege.fas@concordia.ca.

Leadership in Environmental Sustainability Shuffle Award

Created in 2019 by the Shuffle 30 team known as “Shuffle for the Climate”, this in-course scholarship is awarded to a high-performing student who is in a sustainability undergraduate program and who demonstrates environmental leadership by participating in an environmental sustainability group on campus. No application required. 

Award criteria

Demonstrated engagement with sustainability from activities such as: 

  • Have volunteered for fifteen hours or more with Concordia environmental sustainability groups or organizations
  • Are currently a member of the working staff for a Concordia environmental sustainability group or organization
  • Are integrating sustainability into the activities of their department or Faculty through the creation of new collaborative sustainability projects
  • Are “Living Planet Leader” certified by the WWF Living Planet @ Campus program.

In-course scholarship

In-course scholarships are awarded to students who are currently pursuing their studies and are nominated by faculty. No application required. 

Jim Moore Scholarship

The Jim Moore Scholarship was created by John F. Cordeau, BA Loyola College '72, in honour and in grateful recognition of his former Professor, Jim Moore.

The in-course scholarship will support students enrolled in any minor in the Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability who demonstrated academic excellence and exceptional contribution to the life of the college. The selected student can have any major in the university.

Bursaries

Entrance bursary

Entrance bursaries are awarded on a needs-basis upon beginning a program, and are non-renewable. 

Fred Schade Award

This award is given to a deserving incoming student registered in the Minor in Diversity and the Contemporary World or the Minor in Sustainability Studies at the Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability. The purpose of this bursary is to support a student in financial need who is just beginning their study. This bursary is non-renewable.

This award is part of the Undergraduate Entrance Bursary Program. Candidates are considered by the Entrance Bursary Committee each year following the submission of an application for the Entrance Bursary program.

In-course bursary

In-course are awarded on a needs-basis for students who are currently enrolled in a program. 

Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability Adopt-A-Student Bursary

Dr. Rosemarie Schade, Principal of the Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability, established this bursary for students enrolled at the Loyola College for Diversity and Sustainability. The purpose of this bursary is to support a student in financial need who is enrolled in the Minor in Diversity and the Contemporary World to further their education. This bursary is non-renewable.
