Undergraduate advising
All AHSC undergraduate students are encouraged to visit the department for academic advising at least once a year to ensure they are following their program’s and the university’s requirements.
Academic advising for AHSC students:
Advising services are available on a drop-in basis, from 9:00AM to 5:00PM from Monday to Friday.
Please note that our Academic Advisor, Alison Piela, takes her lunch hour from 1:15PM to 2:15PM.
Please also note that our Academic Advisor might also not be available, without prior notice, if attending a meeting or a training, or on vacation.

- MINOR, MAJOR OR SPECIALIZATION HUMAN RELATIONS
- MAJOR OR SPECIALIZATION RECREATION AND LEISURE STUDIES
- SPECIALIZATION THERAPEUTIC RECREATION
Note: These procedures are for students currently in a BA program.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Due to HIGH DEMAND, COMPETITION and LIMITED SPACE, AHSC cannot guarantee that all qualified applicants meeting the minimum criteria will gain entry into any AHSC program. Therefore, qualified applicants should note that ACCEPTANCE TO AN AHSC CONCENTRATION IS NOT AUTOMATIC.
- Applications for Change of Concentration will be reviewed ONLY after the deadline dates.
- You will be contacted once all applications have been reviewed and decisions finalized. This process may take 4-6 weeks.
- You are then required to come to 'drop-in' academic advising to select your courses.
- All AHSC programs are 3-year academic programs.
- Even if you have completed a large number of credits while in your previous program, it could take you a further three years to complete the AHSC program.
- It is not in your best interest to register for a large number of AHSC courses before applying for a Change in Concentration in the event that your application is refused.
- AHSC courses must to be taken sequentially. Courses cannot be taken concurrently with prerequisites. Not all courses are offered each semester.
REQUIREMENTS:
Students MUST have a minimum of 24 Concordia credits completed with a Cumulative G.P.A. of 2.70 (Human Relations or Therapeutic Recreation) and a CGPA of 2.0 for Recreation and Leisure Studies.
Change of Concentration application packages must include:
1. A letter of intent (maximum 2 pages), which should cover the following areas:
- Program you wish to enter.
- Reason for your choice.
- How does the program relate to your learning goals and your career goals?
- List of previous and current work/volunteer experience that might qualify you for this program.
- If you think any element of your academic record is not reflective of your true potential, please explain.
2. A Change of Concentration Form completed and signed.
3. An Unofficial student transcript.
Note: Incomplete application packages will not be considered!
Complete packages are to be submitted to the AHSC Undergraduate Coordinator in L-VE-223 by the deadline.
APPLICATION DEADLINES:
- March 1 – FOR THE FALL SEMESTER
- November 1 – FOR THE WINTER SEMESTER

If you receive a letter from the Faculty of Arts & Science Student Academic Services office informing you that you have been placed on 'conditional standing', you are required to come to an AHSC 'block advising' time to meet with the Undergraduate Coordinator.
