Demographics and distribution

Age 

  • Approximately 63% of respondents are aged 25 years old or less. 
  • About 26% of respondents are aged between 25 and 34 years old. 

Level of study and student status 

Overall, 77% of the respondents are undergraduate students and 22% are graduate students. These results are statistically different from 2022, when there were 80% undergraduate and 19% graduate student respondents. 

Nearly three quarters of respondents are full-time students, while the rest study on a part-time basis. More full-time students are represented in this iteration in comparison to the previous exercise (65% in 2022). The undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. programs are mostly attended by full-time students (proportions varying from 71% to 95%). In contrast, students admitted to certificate or diploma programs, undergraduate, and graduate, generally are part-time (proportions vary between 68% and 86%).

Areas of study

The faculty breakdown of student census respondents is: 

  • Faculty of Arts and Science: 42% 
  • Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science: 27% 
  • John Molson School of Business: 17% 
  • Faculty of Fine Arts: 12% 

Women, members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, caregivers, and persons with a disability are more likely to study in the Faculty of Arts and Science (proportions vary between 50% and 57%) or the Faculty of Fine Arts (14% to 23%). Higher proportions of members of a religious community and men study in business (20% and 19%) or in engineering and computer science (33% to 46%). Furthermore, members of a linguistic minority group are more represented in the faculty of engineering and computer science (38%).
