A new mobile app called MyPiece — which offers Montrealers free, instant discounts to local restaurants — pledges to feed the hungry this holiday season.

Developed by Concordia graduate Philip Barrar, BComm 12, MyPiece enables restaurants to post deals in as little as 30 seconds, which diners receive almost instantly, with offers changing every hour on the hour.

Over 150 establishments are already onboard, including M:Brgr, Ferreira Café and Restaurant Boustan. The free app is available for IOS and Android.

Teaming up with Food Banks of Quebec, MyPiece Media will donate up to $10,000 for hungry Quebec children at Christmas — $1 for every download from December 15 to January 15.

“Every $1 donated amounts to $12 in food given to a child in need, so if we reach our goal of 10,000 downloads we can feed 40,000 children,” says alumna Melissa Breton, BComm 15, marketing director for MyPiece Media Corp.

The Food Banks of Quebec network feeds more than 400,000 people every month, of which 150,000 are children.
