Three prominent individuals with ties to Concordia have been appointed to the Ordre national du Québec, the province’s highest distinction. The recipients were announced earlier this month by Premier Christine Fréchette.
The Ordre national du Québec honours people whose accomplishments have had a significant impact on Quebec society, advancing the province’s cultural, social, economic or scientific development.
Through their leadership, achievements and commitment to public service, these exceptional honourees exemplify Concordia’s spirit of innovation and community engagement.
Rémi Quirion, DSc 11
A leading figure in neuroscience research, Rémi Quirion has made significant contributions to advancing understanding of brain disorders and mental health. His work on Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, pain and memory has earned international recognition and helped shape the field of neuroscience in Quebec and beyond.
Quirion served as the inaugural chief scientist of Quebec for 14 years until his retirement in 2026. He was previously a professor of psychiatry at McGill University and scientific director of the Douglas Hospital Research Centre. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Order of Canada and an honorary doctorate from Concordia.
Darren Entwistle, BA 86, LLD 12
Concordia graduate Darren Entwistle is one of Canada’s most respected business leaders and the longest-serving CEO in global telecommunications. As president and CEO of TELUS, he transformed the company from a regional telephone provider into a global communications and information technology giant. Under his leadership, TELUS has earned international recognition for innovation, sustainability, corporate culture and community impact.
Among his many leadership and philanthropic awards, Entwistle is a member of the Order of Canada and holds honorary doctorates from his alma mater and other universities. He was recently inducted into the BC Innovators Hall of Fame in his home province of British Columbia.
Martine Hébert, MA 85
Martine Hébert is a leading psychologist, researcher and educator specializing in youth affected by sexual violence and trauma. A professor in the Department of Sexology at the Université du Québec à Montréal for more than 25 years, she holds the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Interpersonal Traumas and Resilience.
She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and has received numerous awards for her contributions to research and education.
Investiture ceremony
Also being celebrated this year is trailblazing aerospace engineer and Concordia honorary doctorate recipient Farah Alibay, DSc 23. She was named to the Order of Quebec in 2025, but was unable to attend the ceremony. The 2026 investiture will take place June 17 in Quebec City.
